Detroit MI Cleft Teams
- Dr. Arlene Rozzelle
- NAM and/or Taping prior to lip repair
- Lip Repair done between 3-4 months/palate repair done between 9-10 months
- Restrictions & Requirements after repair include: No bottles, no pacifiers, the use of arm restraints, nose stents, scar massage and scar cream
*We had our first consult with Dr Rozzelle two days after baby came home from the hospital. Making appointments has been simple. They have been very understanding and accommodating of my two preschool aged children tagging along for appointments. We work with a whole team including an ENT Cardiologist and pediatric orthodontist. The only thing I have found lacking is preparation for post op expectations for the parents. I did not feel I was adequately prepared for how hard recovery would be after Sully’s first surgery. His first surgery, at 3 1/2 months old, was lip nose and alveolar ridge repair. He has to wear his nose stents for 3 months minimum.
Grand Rapids MI Cleft Teams

- Lip Repair done at 5 months/palate repair done at 12 months

*Our surgeon takes the time to fully explain everything that we do not understand. He even draws us pictures to diagram what he will do at each surgery. He is very straight forward.
*Dr. Mann was wonderful. He is very friendly and his bedside manner is calming.
*We do not have a “team”, but all of our doctors have worked together to share information

- Lip Repair done at 3 months/palate repair done at 12 months

*Ever since our multidisciplinary meeting when I was 22 weeks pregnant, this team has always been there and have answered any and all questions we’ve ever had. The clinic manager has visited us in every hospital stay to make sure we don’t need anything special. The OT has been amazing and has helped us learn to feed our daughter after every surgery. She even gave us her personal number if ever needed once we were home. Our plastic surgeon has done amazing work with our daughter’s lip and palate repair and is sensitive and treats us like his very first patient. With this team, they aren’t just used to doing this for a living, they treat everyone with compassion and support. We are extremely happy we went with this team!
