*Each specialist – the dentists, the ENT, and the surgeon – were all fabulous on their own, but they were NOT very well coordinated. Actually, it seemed as though they disagreed some; though each would acquiesce to the relevant specialist for the particular issue. It helped for us to do our own research and make our own decisions about what we thought was best.
*I didn’t feel that there was much of a “”team”” in our case – just the surgeon, but we were incomplete, so we didn’t need as much from the other docs.”
*Amazing, meticulous, and thoughtful technique for bilateral cleft lip that takes into account the different pace at which different parts of the naso-labial area grow. Importantly, a one-stage lip and nose repair! No follow-up surgery at 2-4 years. Many tiny conventional stitches that have left only small scars.
*Dr. Mulliken is a bit of diva and perfectionist, but he certainly makes you feel like he wants the absolute best outcome for your child, and that he is willing to put in every effort to make it so.
*We love our cleft team at BCH! Dr. Mulliken is an amazingly talented and well respected surgeon and is especially know for his work repairing Bilateral cleft lips. Dr. Mulliken is very professional and truly cares about your child and the outcome. However, don’t expect him to ask how your day is or how you are feeling. He may not even remember who you are but at the end of the day, he is a very talented surgeon with your child’s best interest in mind. They are very thorough and precise about how they want things done and provide a lot of support to help you accomplish ideal results.
Living 3 hours away, we were initially nervous about the amount of trip we would have to make. Dr. Mulliken has a surgical coordinator who is very good about scheduling several appointments with different doctors to alleviate the need for more trips down.
